About the Role
This is a technical role within the Telegraph Data team. You will work closely with a cross-functional team of Data Engineers, Analysts, and Scientists as an integral part of the Data Engineering chapter, driving the evolution of data architecture and optimising business processes. Alongside senior members, you will help shape the team’s technology and product direction. You will contribute to the development of data platforms focused on reliability, scalability, and performance, and help enable real-time streaming capabilities. Working with the wider business, you will improve data processing procedures, database structures, and performance to meet business requirements. This role offers fantastic scope for a talented individual with a strong interest in data to broaden their experience and gain exposure to the full range of technologies in the modern data landscape.

Key Responsibilities
- Build shippable software following established engineering standards
- Develop and maintain key engineering components such as APIs and Big Data implementations
- Support and extend the current technology stack with new features and ad-hoc R&D projects
- Collaborate with business intelligence users, operations, and development teams to encourage a data-driven and pragmatic approach to problem-solving
- Ensure timely delivery of high-quality solutions
- Maintain company data assets at required quality levels and design solid, efficient, and stable APIs
- Uphold high coding standards and stay updated with the latest technologies and methodologies
- Ensure a globally robust and highly scalable development approach to support growing global users and services
- Enforce best practices in code quality and process design

Requirements

Experience
- 2+ years of experience in data or software development
- Strong Python development skills, including implementing ETL data pipelines
- Advanced SQL scripting knowledge
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (preferred), or AWS/Azure
- Knowledge of big data platforms and relational databases
- Familiarity with technologies such as Git, Docker, and Bash
- Ability to design and implement simple ETL solutions in both batch and real-time
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and ability to design delivery processes
- Ability to select appropriate technologies for specific tasks

Desirable Skills
- Experience with DBT (Data Build Tool) for data pipeline development
- Experience with data streaming technologies such as Google Dataflow or Apache Beam
- Experience using Airflow
- Experience with NoSQL databases like Redis and Elasticsearch
