About the Role
The Defence Nuclear Organisation (DNO) is responsible for the provision of the UK’s nuclear deterrent, including submarines and nuclear warheads, while advising on nuclear planning and fostering international co-operation. The DNO is a multidisciplinary team of over 700 professionals working alongside the Royal Navy, the Submarine Delivery Agency, and the Atomic Weapons Establishment as part of the Defence Nuclear Enterprise (DNE). We value diversity and inclusion, fostering a culture where differences are celebrated and people feel supported and empowered.

This role is open to substantive Grade 7s and experienced colleagues on promotion. It plays a crucial part in aligning strategic priorities across the Defence Nuclear Enterprise, supporting joined-up delivery and engagement with the wider MOD Strategy function.

Key responsibilities include leading the DNE’s implementation of defence strategic priorities such as those in the Strategic Defence Review, conducting strategic analysis to identify improvement opportunities, leading senior briefings up to the Prime Minister, coordinating strategic projects, and ensuring alignment with Defence Reform. The role includes line management responsibility for one Senior Executive Officer (SEO, C1).

Flexible and condensed working patterns may be considered; however, due to security constraints, hybrid or remote working is not suitable. Successful candidates will be based in MOD Main Building, Whitehall. Part-time or job share arrangements are not applicable due to the need for rapid delivery of outputs.

The required security clearance for this role is Developed Vetting. This post is reserved for UK nationals only.
