Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Job overview In conjunction with the Senior Finance Manager to take the financial lead on developing Directorate business plans and presenting these to clinical group and trust Executive Directors. Identifying opportunities for financial efficiencies and high-lighting areas of risk and ensuring these are closely monitored. In conjunction with the Senior Finance Manager to be the designated Financial Management representatives on Directorate Management Teams and to present complex financial management information and advice to senior directorate staff, clinical group and trust Executive Directors at Performance and Executive reviews. To ensure the development of robust financial forecasts reflecting Directorate operation plans and ensuring these are agreed and understood by Directorate Management Teams. Main duties of the job The Deputy Finance Manager provides business partnering support to their clinical directorates in all their monthly, annual and ad hoc financial performance and planning activities. They are responsible for reviewing the month end Directorate positions, the completion of monthly forecasts and consolidation of a directorate monthly performance report, in consultation with the Directorate General Manager and the Senior Finance Manager, and presenting these at Directorate meetings. They will support their Directorate’s annual financial planning process and undertake costings of service developments and savings plans. Detailed job description and main responsibilities The Deputy Finance Manager will be a business partner to their Directorate acting as the first port of call for all financial management queries. This role will cover Evelina Central, R&D and Charity Directorates. The post holder will: • Provide expert finance business partnering support to their Directorate in all regular and ad hoc financial management and business planning activities. • Take responsibility for designing & preparing the monthly finance reports and forecasts , including discussing these with relevant stakeholders across the department. • Support the Senior Finance Manager in the annual financial planning processes for the Directorate, taking responsibility for preparing accurate financial plans based on the directorate’s strategies. • Demonstrate confidence in communicating with staff at all levels and across all professional disciplines, and explain complex financial information to both finance and non-finance staff in a meaningful way. This role requires strong time management skills and the ability to maintain high quality outputs whilst managing competing commitments. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Substantial progress towards a CCAB accountancy qualification, with full qualification being actively pursued. Evidence of regular professional and personal development training Desirable criteria Fully CCAB Qualified Experience Essential criteria Significant experience of working in an accounting department of which considerable experience has been in a specialist financial management role. Skills Essential criteria Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both non-finance and finance staff. Be able to provide, or obtain from other sources, professional advice and support from across all of the accounting disciplines. The Deputy Finance Manager must be able to set and negotiate priorities for themselves and others, and subsequently programme workload, to achieve results and meet deadlines.
