Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research. The ‘in house’ payroll and pension’s team at Guy’s and St Thomas’ are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic payroll professional to step into the Deputy Head of Payroll and Pension’s role. Spanning Guy’s, St Thomas’, Evelina, Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals as well as our community services, this role will play a vital role in ensuring accurate and timely remuneration and pensions advice for our dedicated staff. We also provide services to another NHS Trust and are looking to expand this service further across the region. Main duties of the job In this role you will lead a team of skilled payroll & pensions managers and officers, overseeing the accurate and efficient processing of payroll and pensions for our employees, whilst influencing positive change. Your expertise will contribute to maintaining our reputation for reliable and timely remuneration services and accurate pension processing and filing. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders and provide ongoing training and support to your teams whilst working alongside the Head of Payroll and Pensions to strive for continuous service improvement. Detailed job description and main responsibilities If you are a dynamic payroll and pensions professional with leadership experience, have good understanding of ESR and eager to make a meaningful contribution within the Trust, then we invite you to carefully read the detailed job description & person specification attached and apply for this exciting new role! Main responsibilities include: Provide strategic direction and guidance to the payroll and pensions teams, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and best practices. Collaborate closely with the Head of Payroll and Pensions to develop and implement payroll and pensions strategies aligned with the Trust's goals. Oversee the accurate processing of payroll for a diverse workforce, including staff across various roles and pay scales. Lead for the payroll & pensions teams in managing the ESR system enhancements ensuring communication and training is provided for the system amendments. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the Nursing Roster team, Temporary Staffing team, Clinical Group staff internally and external stakeholders such as agencies and applicants, regional Trade Union representatives and other outside organisations. Stay up to date with changes in payroll legislation and pension regulations, adapting processes as necessary. Provide insightful reporting and analysis related to payroll and pensions for decision-making purposes. Person specification Experience Essential criteria Extensive experience managing large operational teams within a high-volume payroll and pensions service. Experience in providing solutions and service efficiencies within the Payroll function within complex organisations. Demonstrable success achieving demanding targets and meeting and service level agreements. Skills Essential criteria Exceptional analytical skills; able to assess and understand complex management and service issues Exceptional verbal and written communication; able to communicate clearly and effectively on a range of highly complex payroll and employment issues Able to build credible and influential working relationships at all levels within and outside the organisation. Knowledge Essential criteria Expert knowledge of Agenda for change (AfC) terms and conditions. Expert user of ESR (Electronic Staff Record).
