St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Job overview The Deputy Service Manager role has become available in the Elective Assurance team for 12 month Maternity Cover. If you are keen to influence and drive patient experience, safety, performance and staff wellbeing then we would like to hear from you. The role will be to lead on the delivery of Elective Assurance training packages provided to the organisation to raise awareness and understanding of national access targets and the operational processes which are required to support them. You will need to have an in depth understanding of national access targets, specifically RTT and diagnostic waits. The post holder will also need to have completed all Apollo training and have access to EPIC systems. You will provide leadership and expert advice to your teams to help deliver high standards of care and quality. This is a challenging role but an exciting opportunity for the right candidate looking to further their skills and progress their career into a senior management role. Main duties of the job The Deputy Service Manager is a key post within the Elective Assurance Department. In conjunction with the Elective Assurance Manager the post holder will lead on the implementation and monitoring of a range of initiatives and projects. The post holder will support the Elective Assurance Manager in managing a complex range of assessments and reviews providing overarching business coordination and managing internal communication within the department and across clinical services at a multidisciplinary level. A key function of the Deputy Service Manager is to provide the line management of a busy administrative team. This team is responsible for the provision of a high quality administrative service within the Elective Assurance Department. This role will also be responsible for identifying the need for process change to ensure consistency of administrative processes are in place to underpin excellent clinical care across the organisation. The post holder will also be expected to work in conjunction with the relevant Directorate Management Team to implement required changes, supporting services to identify resolution to any operational barriers. Ensuring content is up to date and relevant. To assess staff members trained for competency and to identify further training requirements Responsible for the design and implementation of audits in collaboration with the Elective Assurance Manager. Work with multi-disciplinary teams across departments and external organisations to provide regular updates on internal and external rules changes providing advice and guidance on implementation within services. To lead on the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedure’s and any supporting documentation required to support the trusts access policy. Person specification Qualifications / Education Essential criteria Educated to degree level and postgraduate diploma or equivalent experience. Skills / Knowledge / Ability Essential criteria Strong verbal and written skills including the production of project reports and presentations for both internal and external stakeholder consumption Competent user of all MS office applications Ability to project manage from design to implementation, large scale transition and transformational projects Previous experience Essential criteria Experience of in-depth report writing and information presentation Excellent understanding and experience of the requirements of financial reporting and experience in budgetary management Proven ability to manage multiple strands of work at one time, demonstrating planning and organisational skills Guy’s and St Thomas’ celebrates, respects and values the diversity of its staff and patients.
