Job overview The South East London Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (SEL DESP) has a vacancy in our Failsafe Team for a A&C Band 4 Failsafe Officer. We are looking for a confident professional with experience in managing and prioritising a considerable work load, to join our team. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT A PATIENT FACING ROLE and does have the flexibility of working from home once fully trained up. We have very close links with both ophthalmology and diabetes departments, aiming to provide an integrated and patient focused screening service. The advert will close at midnight on 7 th April 2024. Main duties of the job The post holder must ensure that a robust, high quality failsafe system is in place for a large and complex retinopathy screening programme. You will be required to work as part of the failsafe team as well as support the Failsafe Supervisor in ensuring that the retinal screening service is continuously developed and delivered in accordance with the Failsafe requirements outlined by the National Screening Committee to the population of people with diabetes in Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham, Bromley, Bexley and Greenwich. A substantial part of the role requires a good understanding of diabetic retinopathy, attention to detail and being able to problem solve. You will need to be able to work independently and take initiative to identify gaps in failsafe processes and patient care. An understanding of Excel, Outlook, Access and using other Hospital systems is required for this role as they are used daily. Good communication skills are vital for this role as you will need to maintain various relationships both with the team and outside the service. Working for our organisation The SEL DESP is one of the largest eye screening programmes in the country, responsible for providing screening to over 100,000 patients and has close links with both ophthalmology and diabetes services across SE London as well as our academic colleagues in King’s Health Partners who are leading the field of diabetes research. Screening is delivered in Hospital outpatient clinics, NHS health centres and high street opticians. We have a large integrated team comprising of Screener Graders at three levels of competency, qualified specialist Optometrists, administrators and failsafe officers. The service is led by a dedicated management team and Consultant Ophthalmologist.
