Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research. In partnership with King’s College London we have dedicated clinical research facilities including an MHRA accredited Phase I clinical trials unit. Job overview The Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Team is looking for an EDI Officer to support the delivery of the Trust's EDI Improvement Programme for a one year period. EDI Officers are aligned to Clinical Groups and staff networks to support with the development, implementation, and delivery of the Trust's EDI Vision, including Anti-Racism in Action, LGBTQ+ Inclusion, and Disability Inclusion, as well as leading on Trust wide projects and initiatives relating to EDI. This is a great opportunity to hone your skills and experience as an EDI Officer, working autonomously with senior managers but with the support of the Director and Associate Director of EDI. Main duties of the job This role entails supporting the Director and Associate Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in conceptualising, developing, and delivering EDI initiatives across the organisation. You will work with and be aligned to a Clinical/Delivery Group and/or a corporate function and will also work closely with colleagues, partners, patients, and key stakeholders, both internally and externally, to achieve this. The post holder will help the team in leading change, developing improvement initiatives, and engaging, motivating, and harnessing the potential of staff so as to ensure there is no experiential difference between groups of people based on any of the protected characteristics and beyond. In addition, you will also ensure patients and members of the public are at the centre of the services on offer and positively impact upon the context and culture of the organisation. Person specification Education/Qualifications Essential criteria Education to Masters level or related transferable experience Excellent IT skills; advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications Previous Experience Essential criteria Highly developed specialist knowledge in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion work procedures, underpinned by theory and experience Experience and/or demonstrated interest in improving workforce equality with knowledge of the WRES and WDES Knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion policy agenda, legislation and best practice Experience of conducting and/or advising on Equality Impact Analysis (EIAs) Experience of planning and organising complex activities or programmes of work Plan and organising a broad range of complex activities; formulisation, adjusting plans and strategies Experience of implementing EDI initiatives, including frameworks and standards Experience of developing and delivering training to a wide audience Ability to identify/research new developments in EDI and translate these into practical applications Experience of reviewing requests for funding and liaising with the Supplies team to source products and supplies and authorise small spend against budget for items Skills/Knowledge/Ability Essential criteria Excellent communications skills, written and oral; good listening skills Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong customer focus Analyses complex Equality issues and makes decisions based on analysis and interpretation.
