About the Role
Hackney Education provides a range of services to support the education of children, young people and adults in our inner London borough. Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. Within our diverse borough we serve a wide range of children and young people, with a particular focus on supporting less advantaged families. Hackney ranks in the 10% most deprived boroughs in England on several measures.

Our key priority is to improve the life chances of every child, young person and learner, making Hackney the most forward-looking education system in the UK. We aim to create an exciting environment where schools, settings and partners ensure inclusion and success for everyone. Hackney is one of the best places in the country for young people to grow, learn, develop and achieve, and one of the best places for colleagues to work and thrive.

The Educational Psychology Service is highly valued by educational settings and professionals across Hackney. We employ a consultative style of delivery and are committed to development and learning opportunities for Educational Psychologists (EPs) to explore areas of interest. EPs have the opportunity to work across diverse workstreams including the Virtual School, Mental Health in Schools Teams, CAMHS roles, and more. Our team also delivers Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) interventions and trains Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs). We are continually refining our services, developing anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices, and exploring innovative ways to apply psychological skills.

We are seeking Educational Psychologists with a clear understanding of psychology’s relevance to children’s development, who can operate with confidence, flexibility and professionalism in all contexts. We are expanding our team by six EPs on a three-year fixed term basis, in preparation for the 2026 SEND reforms and to develop our local Experts at Hand Offer. Applications from Trainee Educational Psychologists (TEPs) in their third year as well as experienced EPs are welcome. Candidates should demonstrate a reflective approach to practice and strong interpersonal skills to contribute effectively both individually and as part of the team.

We offer a comprehensive induction and supervision programme including peer supervision, flexible working hours, and an essential car user allowance. Our modern open-plan office is located in the heart of Hackney and is equipped with excellent IT facilities including iPads.
