About the Role
The Finance team supports accurate and timely accounting across Argos fixed assets, technology costs and leases. Working collaboratively with Finance, Technology, Property, Procurement, Tax and audit colleagues, the team maintains the records, systems and data behind capital expenditure, depreciation, technology-related costs and IFRS 16 lease balances. This role offers an opportunity to build specialist accounting expertise while helping simplify, standardise and automate important reporting processes.
As Financial Accountant – Fixed Assets, Tech & Lease Accounting, you will complete period-end accounting activities across fixed assets, technology costs and leases. Your responsibilities will include preparing journals, reconciliations and reporting schedules, investigating variances and resolving reconciling items. You will ensure additions, transfers, depreciation, disposals, technology expenditure and lease movements are recorded in line with policy and applicable accounting standards.
Day to day, you will maintain fixed asset and lease records, administer non-property lease data and complete IFRS 16 entries and reconciliations. You will support periodic, interim and year-end reporting, budgets and forecasts, statutory accounts, impairment reviews and audit requests. Additionally, you will work with stakeholders to improve data quality and identify opportunities to make processes more accurate, efficient and automated.
At Sainsbury’s, you will experience a fast-moving environment where your work has visible impact. You will be supported to develop your skills and encouraged to contribute ideas in a collaborative team culture.
Experience
A recognised accounting qualification, part-qualification, or active study towards an accounting qualification is essential. Demonstrable experience of financial accounting, balance-sheet reconciliations and period-end journals or reporting activities is required. Practical understanding of fixed assets, capital expenditure, technology cost or lease accounting, including IFRS 16 or relevant asset-accounting requirements is expected. Evidence of maintaining detailed accounting records, investigating variances and resolving or escalating reconciling items is necessary. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including managing, analysing and reconciling detailed financial information, is important. Experience of Oracle Financials or lease-accounting systems would be beneficial but is not essential.
About you
You will be organised and able to manage demanding deadlines with clear communication skills. You should be able to use judgement to resolve or escalate complex matters and have a strong attention to detail. A proactive approach to improving processes and working collaboratively with stakeholders is important.
