About the Role
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS trusts, providing a wide range of hospital and community services across south London and specialist care for patients from further afield. The Trust is home to leading centres including the largest dental school in Europe, a £160 million Cancer Centre, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, and one of the largest critical care units in the UK. The Trust is part of King’s Health Partners and is committed to clinical excellence, research, and delivering outstanding patient care.
The GSTT Armed Forces Welfare Officer will provide holistic welfare support to ensure effective delivery of the Armed Forces Programme outputs. This role involves leading welfare aspects of the programme, managing day-to-day delivery, and performance management to mitigate risks and issues across the welfare spectrum. The post holder will collaborate with clinicians, managers, and internal and external stakeholders to ensure the best possible staff and patient experience and service delivery.
The post holder will be responsible for welfare management expertise for the Armed Forces Community, briefing Trust staff on their responsibilities, and supporting programme and organisational priorities. They will communicate progress, provide reports, organise welfare resources, recognise safeguarding issues, support evaluation and audit of welfare data, respond rapidly to crisis situations, and professionally process referrals assessing welfare needs with compassion and sensitivity.
The GSTT Armed Forces Programme was established in 2021 to champion the Armed Forces Covenant commitment by the UK government, supporting welfare and clinical pathways across the Trust and wider London. The role requires agility, strong communication, and the ability to manage evolving welfare landscapes as collaboration opportunities grow.
