This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Surgery directorate as a Service Manager within the Plastic Surgery department. The role offers exposure to both inpatient and outpatient services, as well as sector working with King’s College Hospital (KCH) and Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH). You will be operationally responsible for Plastic Surgery services, overseeing performance (Referral to Treatment times), financial management, and staff leadership.

We seek an enthusiastic and bright individual who enjoys patient contact and working within a busy, friendly, multidisciplinary team. You will be supported by a highly supportive Directorate Management Team and receive a comprehensive induction and handover. This challenging role requires the ability to manage complex queries, liaise and negotiate with clinicians, lead local changes, and implement them efficiently. Experience in operations, leadership, and HR/performance management is essential.

Main Duties
Operational Performance Management including resolving day-to-day performance issues, monitoring service performance against contracts, managing data analysis for leadership teams, ensuring compliance with Trust policies, staffing and skill mix management, and supporting clinical and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver core services effectively.

Management and Leadership responsibilities include managing all administrative and clerical teams, staff deployment, recruitment, performance management, training and development, sickness and disciplinary management, supporting clinical leads with safe staffing and HR queries, and contributing to business and workforce planning.

Quality, Risk and Governance duties involve implementing effective systems and risk management, supporting compliance with governance and best practice, managing complaints and conflict resolution, and ensuring adherence to legislation and Trust policies.

Financial Management includes managing the administrative budget, monitoring financial performance, identifying savings, supporting business case development, and ensuring compliance with Trust financial instructions.

Strategy, Change and Service Improvement involves participating in Trust-wide programmes, contributing to strategic development, identifying and delivering service improvements, supporting research and education programmes, and promoting patient-centred service redesign.

Requirements

Qualifications
Educated to degree level or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
Evidence of recent Continuing Professional Development.
Understanding and track record of successful change and project management.
Knowledge of operations and/or project management methodologies and techniques.
Knowledge of contract management.
IT literate, including competency in MS Office programmes, particularly Excel.

Experience
Proven experience managing successful projects and/or operational performance improvements, including development and monitoring of output and outcome measures.
Experience managing complex budgets from multiple income sources.
Operational experience managing specific services including design, development, implementation, and change management in a multi-professional environment.

Desirable: Understanding of lean methodology and knowledge of the changing NHS environment.
