About the Role
Following a recent reorganisation, exciting opportunities have arisen within Legal Services for three dedicated, enthusiastic Housing Litigation Lawyers. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and have a passion for public service, this could be your next career step.

You will join the Housing Litigation Team within the Legal Services department, specialising in resolving legal disputes related to housing and property, including possession, anti-social behaviour, tenancy fraud, and homelessness matters. The role involves managing a substantial personal caseload and providing expert legal advice on housing legislation, anti-social behaviour, homelessness, nuisance, landlord, tenant and leaseholder rights.

Key responsibilities include drafting, negotiating and agreeing legal documentation; staying current with developments in relevant law and advising the Principal Lawyer on implications; advising on the Council's powers and decision-making processes to ensure legality and risk mitigation; acting as an advocate for the Council in courts, tribunals, and inquiries; and instructing Counsel when necessary.

You will also contribute to the efficient operation of the team and Legal Services as a whole, fostering collaboration and supporting colleagues to achieve shared goals. Additional duties include drafting reports and legal implications for Executive and other member/officer meetings, attending these meetings as a Legal Services representative, contributing to policy development and good practice, and assisting with client liaison and training needs.

Islington Council is committed to challenging inequality and creating a more equal borough. Our values—collaborative, ambitious, resourceful, and empowering—guide everything we do, reflecting our dedication to public service and supporting our people.
