About the Role
The role of a Cost Manager is to manage the cost and legal processes of a construction project, ensuring projects are delivered within the client's approved budget. As an Intern in Cost Management at Gardiner and Theobald LLP, you will be enrolled in the Industry Insights Programme, designed to provide a broad understanding of the Cost Manager role, the wider business, and the construction and property industry. You will support a variety of day-to-day project activities under the guidance of your supervisor, encouraged to take ownership of tasks and work independently where appropriate, while knowing when to seek support. The internship offers varied experience depending on the team, projects, and sector, providing valuable insight into the profession and exposure to real-world project environments.
General Responsibilities
In conjunction with your line manager, the internship will typically include:
- Measuring drawings produced by the Design Team, manually or using measurement software such as CostX
- Assisting in the preparation of cost plans using measurements and construction process knowledge
- Supporting the preparation of contract documentation, including preliminaries and pricing documents
- Attending site visits and supporting valuation of works completed, preparing analysis and documentation to facilitate payment
- Assisting with value engineering activities to identify cost savings and efficient budget use
- Helping with the collection, recording, and maintenance of project data

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK for the duration of their employment as Gardiner and Theobald LLP cannot sponsor work visas for Early Talent roles. Recruitment is on a rolling basis and applications may close early if positions are filled. Only one application per candidate per academic year will be considered.

Qualifications
Good A-Level grades or an equivalent qualification
Excellent working knowledge of current IT systems and applications
