St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. Job overview The Test Manager is a strategically important role, defining quality assurance standards and providing specialist software testing input. This is a hands on role and will include contributing to a wide a range of testing activities, including development and review of guidance, test plans, test scenarios, test cases, problem resolution and delivery of testing services. This is a technical post, in which the Test Manager will be expected to undertake a range of duties covering different aspects of the Testing Service. The emphasis of day-to-day work will depend upon the work area and the system or application under test. This can include clinical and non-clinical applications The post holder will be expected to undertake a range of duties including managing discrete test packs across a wide range of projects. The role will change from release to release, depending on the specific assurance approach or type. Main duties of the job The Test Manager will be required to take a flexible and innovative approach to testing combined with excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills to ensure that software applications and services perform to the requirements of its users and clinicians. The post holder will lead on all testing activities as required. Performing complex analysis on information relating to software testing and produce reports on this information for development, project and senior management staff. To draw up Test Requirement/ Test specification and outline of new solution, new requirement, data files and logical operations the system will perform. To provide full life cycle approach to test and delivery with change support of new Business process solution. To provide detailed root cause analysis and instigating resolutions that are impact analysed for past and future practice. Produce detailed reports and specific documents as required. To act as an Expert in all aspects of Testing Solutions. Establish Go/No Go decision criteria based on results and attend Go/No Go meetings prior to release. Working for our organisation Testing team is formed of 5 team members and it is part of the Service Design and Transition Team. Detailed job description and main responsibilities Provide test input and expert advice to various internal boards, including project and the change advisory board.  Liaise with end user representatives to discuss business impact of issues found. Establish relationships with suppliers, IT Operations Service Management, project managers, clinical safety officer and senior clinical and administrative managers, facilitating resolution of conflicts in the testing area. Management of testing documentation with other assurance stakeholders including suppliers, IT Operations Service Management, project managers, clinical safety officers and senior clinical and administrative managers. Initiate communications between stakeholders, acting as a single technical point of contact for assurance stakeholders Facilitate open communication and discussion between stakeholders. Work closely with project managers to schedule testing in line with project plans Capture and disseminate technical and business information. Facilitating the business change decision making processes, and the planning and implementation of change Manage the assurance of suppliers testing, to ensure that the testing is thorough, to an appropriate level and standard and meets contractual requirements, by reviewing of test documentation and scripts and witnessing test execution. Manage and/or execute system, integration and acceptance tests Certification and accreditation of supplier systems to defined technical standards Manage the process to ensure all test issues are being progressed and provide technical input to defect disputes Produce and maintain a hazard risk log as part of the testing process in conjunction with project managers. Provide input to assist Head of IT Applications Programs and other senior IM&T managers with reviews of project plans and proposals Person specification Education Essential criteria In depth expert knowledge and skills and appropriate certification within the Testing field. ISTQB Software Testing Foundation Certificate Extensive experience as a Testing Manager. Ability and proven skills in managing large teams. Desirable criteria ISTQB Test manager Experience in an NHS Acute Trust Environment Good understanding of an Acute Trust’s clinical and corporate administrative systems. Previous experience Essential criteria Extensive experience in managing testing activities in a large scale, complex application systems environment. Skills Essential criteria Proven ability to clear articulate technical solution architecture and to recognise risks association with that solution.
