About the Role
Camden Council is transforming to improve life for all residents and communities, placing them at the heart of everything we do. As a Labourer, you will play a vital role in supporting repairs and maintenance across housing, public buildings and other Council-managed premises. This varied and hands-on position involves labouring, driving, and cleaning duties, assisting craft workers with both emergency call-outs and planned refurbishment projects in occupied and vacant properties.
Your daily tasks will include collecting and delivering materials, supporting tradespeople on-site, and maintaining clean and safe workshops and buildings. You will contribute to delivering repairs right the first time, ensuring high standards of quality and efficiency while minimising disruption to residents. A strong focus on health and safety is essential, including safeguarding, lone working, asbestos awareness, manual handling, and COSHH compliance.
Effective communication with residents, supervisors, and planners is key to meeting service objectives. You will also be responsible for the safe use and upkeep of tools, materials, and Council vehicles, along with accurate and timely completion of all required documentation. This role demands initiative, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering excellent service every day.
This post requires an Enhanced DBS check and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
Experience
Practical experience in building trades and maintenance environments, particularly within occupied properties, is essential. Experience supporting repair and refurbishment projects and working safely on site is required.
About you
You will be physically fit and able to manage the manual aspects of the role. Strong health and safety awareness and a commitment to equal opportunities and respectful working practices are important. You must be a clear and professional communicator with excellent customer service skills and the ability to manage your own time effectively. Familiarity with technology such as PDAs for receiving and recording work is beneficial. A clean and valid driving licence is required.

Relevant health and safety training certificates are advantageous but not essential.
