About the Role
Networks and Infrastructure (N&I) within the Home Office are responsible for delivering and maintaining the core infrastructure for the entire department. This role sits within the Core Infrastructure team, which manages a diverse range of systems and technologies including Windows and Linux servers, core Windows services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Certificate Authority. The team also handles server and service monitoring, Infrastructure as Code, immutable infrastructure, automation, serverless compute, and public cloud services across major cloud providers.
As a Lead Infrastructure Engineer, you will provide senior technical leadership across database platforms, ensuring they are secure, reliable, performant, and aligned with modern engineering standards. You will lead teams delivering and supporting core database services underpinning critical systems, working with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL (PaaS), and AWS RDS. Your role will involve shaping engineering best practices, guiding architectural decisions, and driving improvements across the full service lifecycle.
The role supports a hybrid working model where business needs allow, with a minimum of 60% office presence expected.

Qualifications
While specific qualifications are not detailed, candidates are expected to demonstrate relevant experience aligned with the Home Office Government Digital and Data Profession Career Framework and the SFIA capability framework, particularly in systems design, IT infrastructure, incident management, and organisational facilitation at appropriate levels.
Additional Requirements
This role requires Security Check (SC) clearance and UK residency for the past 5 years (with some exceptions). Candidates must be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting and meet nationality requirements. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
