About the Role
Are you fascinated by London politics? Do you understand local government, know what makes councils tick and enjoy building relationships with the people shaping our city? Peabody, one of London's oldest and largest housing associations, is seeking a Local Public Affairs Manager to strengthen our relationships with councils, councillors, MPs and other local stakeholders across London. We provide homes for more than 220,000 people and work closely with residents, councils and local partners to make a positive impact in neighbourhoods across the capital.

This varied role is ideal for someone who enjoys politics, people and making things happen. You will work closely with our Regional Managing Directors to build strong local relationships, navigate political issues and ensure Peabody plays an active and constructive role in the communities we serve. As part of the Corporate Affairs team, you will collaborate with colleagues in public affairs, policy, communications and external relations, as well as operational teams and senior leaders across the organisation.

Your responsibilities will include developing local stakeholder engagement plans, monitoring London politics and emerging local issues, building and maintaining relationships with councillors, MPs and local authority officers, advising senior colleagues on political matters, managing sensitive local issues and reputational risks, and supporting visits, events and community engagement opportunities. You will also work with communications and neighbourhood teams to ensure local stakeholders are informed about Peabody’s investment in homes, services and communities.

Requirements

Experience
Experience working in a political or public affairs environment, ideally including direct engagement with councillors or local authorities. Strong knowledge of London government, local politics and council operations, including the relationships between elected members, officers and local partners.

About you
Genuine interest in London, its politics and people. Good political judgement and confidence to provide clear, practical advice to senior colleagues. Excellent writing skills for preparing briefings, correspondence and communications. Ability to build trusted relationships, work collaboratively and bring people together. Proactive and organised approach with the ability to manage competing priorities and respond quickly to emerging issues. Curiosity, enthusiasm and willingness to understand the diverse places, people and priorities across London.

Qualifications
Experience in housing is helpful but not essential. A strong understanding of local government and a commitment to working in an organisation with a social purpose are key.
