St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research. In partnership with King’s College London we have dedicated clinical research facilities including an MHRA accredited Phase I clinical trials unit. We have one of the most ambitious capital investment programmes anywhere in the NHS. Job overview To work under the guidance of the nursery management team and/ or other designated staff. To participate in the day to day operation and organisation of the nursery within agreed policies and procedures and to promote solid parent/staff relationships within the group. To work as part of a team, providing a safe, caring and stimulating environment within the Day Nursery for a group of children aged between 3 months and 5 years. To assist in the delivery in the standard of care and education which meets legislative requirements and allows children to develop to their full potential. Main duties of the job Confidentiality / Data Protection / Freedom of Information Post holders must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service business in accordance with the Data Protection Act of 1998. Post holders must not, without prior permission, disclose any information regarding patients or staff. If any member of staff has communicated any such information to an unauthorised person those staff will be liable to dismissal. Infection Control All post holders have a personal obligation to act to reduce healthcare-associated infections (HCAIs). They must attend mandatory training in Infection Control and be compliant with all measures required by the Trust to reduce HCAIs. Post holders must be familiar with the Trust’s Infection Control Policies, including those that apply to their duties, such as Hand Decontamination Policy, Personal Protective Equipment Policy, safe procedures for using aseptic techniques and safe disposal of sharps. Detailed job description and main responsibilities To record any of the child’s achievements in writing and by the use of photography and video in order to track their progress To co-operate with the whole staff team in daily tasks and participate in setting out and clearing away To be aware of all children’s health and safety in the nursery and share relevant information/concerns with the management team To respond immediately to any safeguarding concerns and report these concerns in accordance with the nursery policy and procedure To participate in in-service training. To be involved in all available activities in each area of the curriculum as appropriate to the individual child both inside and outside. To be available to discuss with the nursery manager, key worker partner, parents and outside professionals, all aspects of the child’s development as and when required. To be involved in the development and independence of the child providing appropriate one- to-one support, flexible interchange with other colleagues when required. To attend regular supervisions with a member of the management team in order to provide timely updates on individual children’s development 13.
