Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Job overview Nursing Research and Education Administrative Officer to work with the Head of Nursing for Research and Education in the Cancer and Surgery Clinical Group. The post holder will provide administrative support for the nursing research and education activities within the Cancer and Surgery Clinical Group. This will primarily involve organisation and meeting management, supporting data collection and report writing, and supporting the running and delivery of research and education events and courses. The post holder will be responsible for initiating, organising and managing administrative duties to support the Head of Nursing for Research and Education to achieve key strategic objectives. The post holder will be responsible for the Cancer and Surgery Clinical Group Nursing Education and Research information management and administration process, organising and planning complex activities and programmes, working under minimal supervision when making decisions and judging a range of facts and situations. The post holder will be based at Guy’s Hospital campus, but may be required to work off-site in South East London to support local meetings and events. Main duties of the job To provide a high-quality administrative support to the Head of Nursing for Research and Education, including managing the research and education meetings and events and providing PA support. The post will provide a broad range of administrative support activities to support the Head of Nursing for Research and Education to achieve key strategic objectives. The role will require the individual to interact with administrative and clerical, clinical and academic staff dealing with highly complex and sometimes sensitive issues, often requiring appropriate judgements to be made under minimal supervision. Detailed job description and main responsibilities Administrative Support and Resourcing Providing efficient PA support for the Head of Nursing for Research and Education in Cancer and Surgery Acting as first point of contact for queries about nursing research activity in the Cancer and Surgery Clinical Group Maintaining procedures/office administrative systems Organising meetings and other appointments for the Head of Nursing for Research and Education, including diary management, booking venues, audio-visual equipment and IT support, hospitality (where appropriate) and distribution of papers, as necessary Minute-taking Preparing and circulating of meeting, research/education event materials, including papers, slides, attendee registration details Collating and reporting event participation, evaluation and feedback Liaising with staff, suppliers and clients Dealing with correspondence, complaints and queries Typing, compiling and preparing letters, presentations and reports Using a range of software packages, including MS Office, MS Teams, EventBrite, online survey software Using initiative and judgement at all times, analysing facts and situations Multi-tasking and planning work for short, medium and long-term timescales Taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development opportunities through appropriate training courses The post holder must have the ability to communicate with all levels of staff and external agencies in a confident and sensitive manner, verbally, electronically and in writing Supporting quality assurance and governance activities, including measuring activities against quality standards through the collection, analysis and reporting of appropriate data, including recommendations for change throughout the clinical group. Continuously monitoring the management of resources to ensure that financial expenditure does not exceed the annual budget.
