The role is based in East Croydon, accessible by Train and Tram Link. Please note this location does not have step free access.
Hours
22.5 hours per week across three working days, Monday to Friday on a rota between 08:00 - 20:00

£24,000 per annum
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist with expertise in Complex Mental Health and Substance Misuse to join our residential service in Croydon. You will use your skills to support residents facing mental health challenges and complex needs by providing specialist occupational therapy as part of their recovery journey. This role offers the opportunity to shape your own position within a multidisciplinary team including Positive Engagement Workers, a Dual Diagnosis Worker, and a Clinical Psychologist, while working closely with the Group Psychological Lead and external partners. Regular supervision and access to an external clinical psychologist are provided.
You will deliver evidence-based interventions based on holistic assessments to support personalised recovery, integration, and promotion of independent living skills. You will proactively plan and deliver meaningful activities, including one-to-one and group sessions. Working closely with clinical teams, you will assess residents’ situations, write recommendations, and provide appropriate signposting. You will conduct various assessments to empower enhanced community and personal engagement and set SMART goals collaboratively with residents, considering input from team members and partner agencies.
This role requires a psychologically informed, person-centred approach, adapting flexibly to resident needs to support their journey towards independence and stability.
Experience
- Proven experience working with people with multiple complex needs, particularly in mental health and substance misuse.
- Ability to provide specialised occupational therapy assessment and treatment.
- Experience applying theory to practical environments using trauma-informed, non-judgmental approaches.
- Ability to recognise signs of deteriorating mental or physical health and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Experience supporting residents with life skills, knowledge, and resources to achieve independence.
- Ability to develop and encourage participation in projects and group engagement activities.
About you
You are a passionate, driven, and qualified Occupational Therapist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). You work well within a team, building trusting relationships and applying relevant guidance and protocols confidently. You are committed to a trauma-informed approach and can adapt your interventions to meet the diverse needs of residents with complex mental health and substance use challenges.
Qualifications
- Registered Occupational Therapist with HCPC.
- Willingness to work in adherence to HCPC, Consultation Observation Tool (COT), and other professional practice guidelines.
