Mulberry Place, 5 Clove Crescent, London, primarily based at Whitechapel Town Hall, 160 Whitechapel Road, E1 1BJ

Hours
Part-time, 17.5 hours per week. Some flexibility in work patterns subject to group meetings and Council meetings. Evening and some weekend work required. Hybrid working possible with office attendance on workdays and some work from home depending on circumstances and group agreement.

Salary
£50,175 - £53,319 pro rata (Grade J)

About the Role
Be a key support to local democracy as Political Advisor to the Labour Group. You will provide administrative, policy, and communications support to the Group Leadership and Members. Responsibilities include coordinating meetings, drafting briefings and reports, and supporting the Council’s decision-making processes. Acting as a vital link between your group, Members, senior officers, and external stakeholders, you will work on sensitive and complex issues within a dynamic political environment. This role requires discretion, strong organisation, and confident communication skills to manage sensitive information and produce high-quality briefings and reports at pace.

Requirements

Experience
Experience working in a high-profile, fast-paced political or local government environment is desirable. Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of work.

You are organised, proactive, and able to work independently. You have strong written and verbal communication skills, producing clear, high-quality materials. You think critically and provide sound advice. Collaborative by nature, you build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, Members, and officers. You can manage sensitive information with discretion and are confident in a dynamic political environment.

Qualifications
No specific qualifications are required; however, a commitment to local democracy and local government is essential. The post is politically restricted and your political affiliations and interests will be discussed at interview.
