Hours
Part-time, 17.5 hours per week. Some flexibility in work patterns subject to group and Council meeting schedules. Evening and occasional weekend work required. Primarily office-based with some potential for remote working depending on circumstances and group agreement.

Salary
£53,319 per annum (pro-rata)

About the Role
As Political Advisor to the Labour Group, you will provide vital administrative, policy, and communications support to the Group Leadership and Members. Your responsibilities will include coordinating meetings, drafting briefings and reports, and supporting the Council’s decision-making processes. You will act as a key liaison between your group, Members, senior officers, and external stakeholders, working on sensitive and complex issues within a dynamic political environment. This role demands a high level of organisation, discretion, and the ability to produce high-quality materials at pace. You will be a confident relationship builder, able to engage effectively with political colleagues, Council officers, stakeholders, and the public.

Requirements

Experience
Proven ability to work in a high-profile, fast-paced political environment. Experience managing sensitive information with discretion and producing high-quality briefings, reports, and communications under tight deadlines.

About You
Highly organised and proactive individual with strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to work independently, think critically, and provide sound advice. Collaborative by nature with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, Members, and officers. Committed supporter of local democracy and local government.

Qualifications
No specific qualifications required; however, a strong interest in politics and local government is essential. The post is politically restricted and your political affiliations and interests will be discussed at interview.
