About the Role
Be a vital support to Local Democracy in Tower Hamlets as the Political Advisor to the Mayor. This role places you at the centre of a high-profile, fast-paced political environment where you will provide policy, administrative, and communications support and advice to the Elected Executive Mayor of Tower Hamlets Council. The Executive Mayor is responsible for setting and driving the Council's priorities through the Strategic Plan and Mayoral/Cabinet decision-making.
Your responsibilities will include coordinating meetings, drafting briefings, and preparing and reviewing reports. You will take a lead role in supporting the Mayor and Executive's ambitions for the borough and support the Council’s decision-making processes, particularly regarding key strategies and policies presented to the Mayor and Cabinet.
You will act as a key link between the Mayor and Executive with senior officers, external stakeholders, and partners. The role involves working on sensitive and complex issues within a dynamic and challenging political environment.
This is a fixed term contract up to 31 May 2030, subject to annual review by the Executive Mayor. The post is politically restricted and your political affiliations and interests will be discussed at interview.

Experience
Proven ability to work at the centre of a political environment, managing sensitive information with discretion. Experience producing high-quality briefings, reports, and communications at pace. Skilled in building and maintaining relationships with senior politicians, officers, partners, political groups, and stakeholders.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce clear, high-quality materials. Able to work independently, think critically, and provide sound advice.
