We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer with previous consultancy experience to join our Places Design Practice. In this role, you will deliver elegant and efficient mechanical design solutions on exciting and challenging projects for key clients. Our work supports the creation and enhancement of smart, safe, and sustainable places where people live, work, learn, and thrive — including new homes, shops, workplaces, schools, hospitals, manufacturing, research and development facilities, and data and distribution centres.
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will lead mechanical design on larger projects, collaborating closely with other design disciplines to ensure integrated overall solutions. You will present complex technical solutions to clients and manage project teams of up to 10 people, providing technical guidance and supporting their professional development. You will also manage the performance of team members and sub-contractors, identifying and resolving any issues to ensure successful project delivery.
Experience
- Previous experience working in a consultancy environment
- Proven track record in a similar Principal Mechanical Engineer role
- Experience leading mechanical design on large projects
- Ability to manage and support junior engineers and project teams

Qualifications
- BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
