About the Role
As a Principal Planning Officer, you will focus primarily on the larger and more complex applications affecting Camden, taking the lead on negotiations to secure strategic benefits for the Borough’s residents. You will directly mentor and guide planners across various levels, ensuring the delivery of quality developments. Stepping into the roles of both the Development Management Team Manager and Deputy when required, you'll guide our strategic direction and ensure effective decision-making. Additionally, you will personally lead and manage major, complex, and sensitive planning applications, enforcement projects, and appeals. Your expertise will shape the future of our community, making a tangible difference in our development journey.

Requirements

Experience
Proven experience working in local government, handling complex planning problems and managing important tasks effectively. Experience managing high caseloads and multiple demands efficiently is essential.

You care about residents and understand the financial and societal implications of the planning process. Collaborative by nature, you find smart solutions to complex problems and deliver high-quality developments even in challenging socio-political scenarios. You have a strong knowledge of planning and relevant laws, and you are effective at getting things done.

Qualifications
A recognised RTPI qualification is essential. A strong understanding of how planning affects people and places, along with knowledge of the London planning system, is required.
