About the Role
At Tripadvisor, the only thing we love more than travel is data. As a Principal Product Data Scientist, you will be the most senior technical leader within the Product Data Science function. You will shape the vision, set the technical direction, and drive strategic impact through innovative analytical solutions. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise and strong collaborative leadership, influencing senior stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Design, and Commercial teams.

You will lead and define the Data Science strategy for Product, ensuring advanced analytics, data science, and AI methodologies are central to building great products and enhancing customer experiences. You will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, drive adoption of next-generation data science tooling and platforms, and spearhead the integration of emerging AI technologies such as Agentic AI.

Key responsibilities include championing best practices in experimentation and causal inference, owning complex analytical projects that translate ambiguous questions into actionable insights, mentoring and developing data science talent, and scaling impact through automation and democratization of data science capabilities. You will also develop sophisticated customer segmentation and predictive models that directly inform and optimize the product roadmap.

Experience
Extensive experience in data science or a similar quantitative role with a proven track record of supporting and influencing product organizations. Demonstrated success in driving strategic impact and leading technical discussions.

About you
- Expert proficiency in Python and SQL
- Deep hands-on experience with statistical modeling, experimentation, multi-arm bandit, and a wide range of machine learning techniques including regression, classification, and clustering
- Strong product acumen with the ability to define, implement, and operationalize product and feature-level metrics from scratch
- Proven leadership skills with experience mentoring and coaching data scientists or analysts
- Exceptional collaboration and communication skills to engage and influence cross-functional partners at all levels
- Critical thinker with a rational, skeptical, and unbiased approach to analysis and evaluation
- Experience scaling analytics capabilities through automation, self-service tools, or data products

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field. A Master's degree or equivalent relevant programs is a plus.

- Advanced programming skills for building simulations and prototyping data products
- Experience validating quantitative findings with qualitative methods such as surveys or user research
- Demonstrated experience with applied AI technologies, including NLP, Large Language Models (LLMs), or Agentic AI
- Experience working within two-sided marketplaces, e-commerce, or the travel technology industry
