About the Role
The Tripadvisor Group connects people to experiences worth sharing and aims to be the world’s most trusted source for travel and experiences. The Tripadvisor Experiences Engineering team, distributed across Europe, is responsible for the platform, mobile apps, and all supporting infrastructure. We run systems that help operators build their businesses and enable third parties to utilise our inventory, while providing tools for our customer services team to deliver world-class service internationally.

We are seeking a Principal Product Engineer who combines deep engineering craft with strong product instincts. You will work across the stack—mobile, web, backend—tackling the highest-leverage problems each quarter. You will partner closely with product, design, and data teams to identify what’s worth building and ship solutions end-to-end.

This role requires breadth and real depth in the mobile app ecosystem, particularly iOS and/or Android, but is not limited to mobile specialization. You will lead architectural reviews, troubleshoot backend issues, and drive technical excellence across multiple domains.

Key responsibilities include:
- Identifying, scoping, and shipping changes that impact business metrics across mobile, web, services, and data layers
- Architecting long-lasting, performant, reliable, and scalable systems with offline capabilities
- Leading technical design reviews, balancing code quality, product impact, time-to-ship, and operational cost
- Driving operational maturity in release management, observability, incident response, and performance monitoring
- Collaborating with PMs, designers, and engineering leaders to prioritize and shape product development
- Setting the technical bar by example through prototyping, pattern validation, and knowledge sharing
- Communicating trade-offs clearly to engineers, product partners, and senior stakeholders

Experience
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with significant hands-on coding
- Proven track record of shipping product-impacting work end-to-end
- Deep expertise in the mobile app ecosystem (iOS and/or Android) with strong fluency in Swift and/or Kotlin and related technologies (offline sync, push notifications, authentication, persistence, networking, REST/GraphQL)
- Demonstrated breadth working seriously in at least one of web frontend, backend services, data/infra, or platform tooling alongside mobile
- Strong product judgment with experience making decisions about what not to build, supported by evidence
- Comfortable troubleshooting production issues across stacks including crash analysis, latency tracing, and release-health debugging
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, elevating the performance of those around you
