About the Role
As a Principal Transport Planner at Camden Council, you will lead the development and delivery of multiple significant "Healthy Routes" projects as part of the borough's "Healthy Streets" programme. These projects include strategic cycle and bus corridor upgrades, pedestrian, cycling, road safety, and public realm improvements across key high street corridors and residential streets. You will be responsible for delivering bus priority measures such as new and improved bus lanes and corridors.
You will lead a sub-team of two transport planners, providing proactive, innovative, and dynamic leadership to ensure successful delivery of a portfolio of Healthy Streets projects while supporting their professional development. Collaboration with Camden’s Design Engineering team and external consultants will be essential to roll out these projects.
Examples of current schemes include York Way and Haverstock Hill (under construction), Shaftesbury Avenue and Camden Town area bus priority (decision made), and Cross Camden Cycleway (feasibility stage). Camden is in the first year of a three-year delivery plan (2025/26–2027/28) with an ambitious programme of Healthy Streets measures.
Your role will involve project management across all aspects of Healthy Routes delivery, including project planning, feasibility and optioneering, engagement and consultation, decision reporting, stakeholder management, monitoring, budgeting, and financial controls. You will work closely with colleagues across the Council in planning, place and design, greenspaces, regeneration, sustainability, and inclusive economy to ensure projects contribute to wider strategic initiatives such as High Street renewal and air quality improvement.
Camden Council is committed to inclusion and uses anonymised applications to reduce unconscious bias in recruitment.
