Description
Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.

Job overview
This role plays a key part in implementing the NHS LPP vision & strategy, approved by the NHS LPP Steering Board, and in delivering the aspiration of the Board to become a world-class procurement partner of choice for the NHS and the wider public sector
Main duties of the job
Lead and develop the commercial strategic offering for national projects and programmes in order to implement the NHS LPP strategy and vision.
Seek and develop new business opportunities across national projects and programmes for the NHS and wider public sector, in line with NHS LPP’s strategic aims.
Lead and develop a team, as demand requires, to deliver procurement and additional services and expertise, whilst enabling NHS LPP to operate as a profit centre for the health economy and minimise member contributions.
Collaborate with the Professional Services Director to develop professional services across NHS LPP.
Working for our organisation
Please note that as an organisation NHS LPP has been hosted by Guy’s & St Thomas’ (GSTT) NHS Foundation Trust since 2012 and provides the legal framework and supporting services under which NHS LPP operates. However, NHS LPP is a membership organisation funded and governed by its members and not GSTT. NHS LPP staff are employed by GSTT.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The postholder will develop and provide new business opportunities for national procurement projects and programmes for the NHS and wider public sector, delivering best value for money, and ensuring a sustainable business model.
Acts as a strong leader and is respected by key stakeholders and other senior key decision makers of shareholder organisations
Works collaboratively to positively influence shareholder organisations and embed cultural change so that NHS LPP objectives are delivered
Constructs and communicates complex messages to all stakeholder organisations
Engages and operates effectively at stakeholder board level
Maintains and develops the commitment of stakeholder organisations
Compiles and communicates supplier performance data from both a contract management and SRM perspective as required
Communicates and manages change that may have significant impacts on the working lives of NHS and supplier employees
Maintains a network of relevant public and private sector contacts

Member Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply or equivalent
Detailed knowledge of OJEU compliance process

MBA qualification or equivalent

Senior management responsibility across multiple organisations/sites

Communicate with suppliers / members and give presentations
Persuade and influence suppliers, end users, stakeholders and members, on the benefits of contract management and SRM. Consequently there is a need to have highly developed persuasion and influencing skills
