Project Manager - Cardiovascular Networks
Guy's and St Thomas' Trust
£58,698
Full-time
Description
Guy’s and St Thomas’ is among the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.
Guy’s is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions.
Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients.
In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research.
We have a reputation for clinical excellence and high quality teaching and research. We are part of King’s Health Partners, one of eight accredited UK academic health sciences centres. In partnership with King’s College London we have dedicated clinical research facilities including an MHRA accredited Phase I clinical trials unit.
Patients are at the heart of everything we do and we pride ourselves on ensuring the best possible patient experience as well as safe, high quality care. We are proud to have one of the lowest mortality rates in the NHS. Following a comprehensive Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection in 2019 we maintained our overall rating of ‘good’. Our adult community services achieved a rating of ‘outstanding’.
The commitment of our 23,500 staff is key to our success. We are one of the largest local employers and we aim to develop and support all our staff so they are able to deliver high quality, safe and efficient care. The 2019 NHS staff survey results show that we have one of the most engaged and motivated workforces in the NHS. We know this has a positive impact on the care provided to our patients.
We have one of the most ambitious capital investment programmes anywhere in the NHS.
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for two ambitious project managers to lead the implementation improvement work through the South London Cardiovascular Networks, as part of the Cardiac Operational Delivery Network (ODN) and the South East Vascular Network (SEVN).

We are looking to recruit two project managers to lead a portfolio of workstreams alongside the network manager and relevant clinical leads.

The team have a hybrid working arrangement, working from home, the office and provider sites.
Interviews will be held on 12 December 2023.

Working for our organisation
About the South London Cardiovascular Networks
The South London Cardiovascular Networks bring together partners from across South London and neighbouring Kent, Surrey, and Sussex to drive clinically-led improvements in outcomes and quality of care across patient pathways, in patient experience, and in value for money.
The Networks support integrated commissioning boards (ICBs), provider organisations, clinicians and patients by providing access to specialist resources and expertise, including objective analysis and advice on strategic change and co-commissioning. This clinical leadership enables partnership working to achieve benefits, in particular reconfiguration of pathways through prioritisation of interventions which will result in significant savings, contributing to the delivery of high quality, cost effective patient care. The elements within the Networks include the Cardiac Operational Delivery Network, the South East Vascular Network, and the South West Vascular Network. The work programmes are harmonious and interrelated, creating a streamlined, yet holistic, solution to strategic and operational improvements in cardiovascular services in South London, with reach into Kent, Surrey, and Sussex.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
About the South London Cardiac ODN
Established in 2018 following an NHS England analysis of South London specialised commissioning, the ODN was tasked with accelerating improvements in care pathways, strategic procurement, inter hospital transfers and multidisciplinary team working. Since then, the ODN has expanded its work programme to encompass many clinical workstreams with cross cutting work areas. There are three main functions to the ODN, underpinned by focussing on health inequalities, population health, diversity and inclusion, and sustainability:
improving patient experience, redesigning end to end pathways that support patient led care;
improving quality, for optimal safe quality services provided in line with best practice standards; and
improving value for money to bridge the gap between rate of growth in service funding and allocated spend.
About the South East London Vascular Network (SEVN)
The vascular networks (South East and South West) are networked models of clinical care with hospitals spread across South London Surrey, Sussex and Kent. The networks work in collaboration with specialised and local commissioners, primary, secondary and tertiary care providers and other stakeholders across the whole health and care system to improve, and reduce the variation in, the overall quality of care, the patient experience and the clinical outcomes for those in the networks with vascular disease.
The South East Vascular Network (SEVN) includes the following NHS provider organisations:
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust;
Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, including Princess Royal University Hospital;
Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust;
Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust; and
Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
The project manager for the SEVN works closely with the project manager for the south West London Vascular Network (SWVN) and some projects are delivered across South London through collaboration of the two networks.
About the South London Office of Specialised Services
The South London Office of Specialised Services represents a collaborative approach across the two South London integrated care systems (ICSs) and the four specialist provider NHS trusts. Working together, they will remove barriers and transform care across settings.
Paramount to this work are the transformation pilots across a number of clinical areas – including cardiac, aligned to the South London Cardiac ODN.
