Salary
£32,000-£40,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
About the Role
Join the BBC News communications team and work on high-profile, highly scrutinised content consumed by around three quarters of UK adults each week. As Publicist, Domestic News, you will play a key role in publicising programmes and investigations, managing the BBC's reputation, and promoting BBC News output across video, audio and online platforms. You will target UK media to raise the profile of the BBC's journalism and share key messages. The role requires a keen news sense and the ability to handle reputational issues effectively. You will work closely with editorial teams on a variety of content including podcasts, TV and radio documentaries, and digital programming. The role involves collaboration with senior stakeholders, managing potential reputational risks, and working on pan-BBC News initiatives. Occasional travel may be required to manage publicity on the ground for high-profile launches or events. You will also be part of a rota to work on call over some weekends, requiring flexibility.
Experience
- Proven track record of creating and delivering successful publicity campaigns
- Experience crafting press releases, pitching feature ideas, and promoting TV and podcast content
- Skilled in working with external journalists and creating social media content
- Understanding of reputational issues and challenges facing BBC News and the wider news industry
- Experience managing reputational issues and exercising good judgment in crisis communications
- Stakeholder management experience with ability to brief on communication issues
About You
- Keen interest in news and current affairs (desirable)
- Experience organising events (desirable)
- Good understanding of social media and digital communications with experience generating ideas for digital content (desirable)
- Flexible and adaptable to working on call weekends and occasional travel
