St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. In partnership with King’s College London we have dedicated clinical research facilities including an MHRA accredited Phase I clinical trials unit. Job overview This internal secondment or fixed-term contract is restricted to experience research staff with experience of study set-up currently working at GST. Staff who are interested in an internal secondment should read the policy that is available on GTi and gain the support of their direct manager if selected for interview. The R&D Governance team at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust are recruiting Research Governance Facilitator for a 9-month secondment or fixed-term contract or 1 year if working 0.8 WTE. This role requires knowledge of study set-up i.e. confirmation of capacity and capability and/or research contracts experience. Research Governance Coordinators, Trial managers/coordinators and R&D Contracts Associates are encouraged to apply. Main duties of the job The post-holder's main responsibility will be the sponsorship of studies non-commercial studies led by KCL and GST investigators and their amendments. Working in a research sponsorship team the post-holder will support a portfolio of studies that are in set-up at the trust and will work closely with our directorate research matrons or managers to prioritise the set-up of research studies led by GST/KCL. The post-holder will be supported by the Research Governance Specialists, will be provided with sponsorship training and will be required to support the Research Governance Coordinators who issue confirmation of capacity and capability. Alongside research approvals, the post-holder will need to keep abreast of clinical trial research regulations, contribute to and develop SOPs and guidance documents and will on occasion be required to provide research governance training to the team and research delivery staff alike. Working for our organisation Flexible working: we will consider a part-time role of 0.6-0.8 WTE (3-4 days a week ) for the right candidate, along with other flexible working arrangements including compressed hours. However, all R&D staff are required to work in the office 3 days per week (pro rata for part-time staff). The post-holder will be required to travel to the hospitals in our Trust, across London to support with training and archiving our studies. The Research Governance Facilitators will on occasion be required to work more days in the office when training new members of the R&D Governance Team or as required by the service. As this post is to backfill a secondment we are not able to offer a permanent position at this stage. However, this is an excellent opportunity to develop transferable skills should a permanent vacancy become available. We are unable to offer this secondment to staff not employed by GSTT. Detailed job description and main responsibilities The selected candidate must work well within a team, demonstrate trust values, work autonomously and manage their time productively and meet deadlines. It is necessary for the candidate to liaise with a variety of departments and work cross-sites in a collaborative manner. You will have great attention to detail, excellent communication skills and enjoy liaising with colleagues and staff at all levels. You will have an organised and methodical approach to your work with exceptional attention to detail. Interested candidates should have an awareness of Health Research Authority, NIHR and MHRA’s role, along with knowledge of the GDPR, HTA, DPA and the UK Policy for Health and Social Care Research.
