About the Role
As a Regional Tobacco Control Officer, you will be at the forefront of combating illegal tobacco activities within the London region. Your role involves leading technical operations, supporting local Trading Standards officers across London, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. You will build and maintain strong relationships with law enforcement agencies, local authorities, and other stakeholders to coordinate efforts and achieve positive outcomes against illegal tobacco supply. While hosted within Camden, you will work operationally across London and join any London Borough for operations within those Boroughs. By raising awareness and providing training, you will enhance local enforcement capabilities and champion the importance of tackling illegal tobacco at the community level. Acting as a key liaison between various agencies, you will facilitate the sharing of intelligence, communicate new initiatives, and ensure accurate data reporting. Your efforts will contribute significantly to the national strategy against illegal tobacco, making a real difference in public health and safety. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.
Experience
You are a dedicated professional with a background in law enforcement, trading standards, or tobacco control, and you bring a wealth of recent experience in delivering and training for these roles. Your expertise shines through in managing complex projects and investigations, underpinned by a deep understanding of IPA, CPIA, the Regulator’s Code, PACE, and intelligence frameworks.
About You
You have a proven track record for advancing enforcement actions, from serving statutory notices to securing entry warrants, crafting detailed reports, and presenting compelling evidence in legal proceedings. Your ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders is instrumental in driving successful outcomes. You will excel at gathering and analysing evidence to inform your decisions, and you are adept at submitting comprehensive reports with innovative recommendations. Additionally, you have experience in mentoring and training officers in illegal tobacco enforcement operations, ensuring strict adherence to health and safety, and data protection guidelines.
Qualifications
A relevant qualification in law enforcement, trading standards, or a related field is desirable.
