About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Special Educational Needs (SEND) Keyworker within Pupil Services. As an Islington SEND Keyworker (Case Officer), you will be passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of children and young people. You will be a key part of the 0-25 SEND structure for Islington, supporting children and young people with educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) who are applying for or have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP), as well as their families. This post is within the secondary team.

In this role, you will provide advice and support to parents and children aged 0-25 years with SEND. You will work closely with families and professionals to ensure children and young people have the right provision specified in their EHCP, enabling them to progress successfully in education and transition into adulthood. You will also develop partnerships with mainstream and specialist schools to ensure appropriate support for young people.

Main duties include:
- Acting as Keyworker for children with special educational needs and their families
- Coordinating EHC needs assessment processes and annual reviews for children and young people with complex needs
- Co-producing Education Health and Care needs assessments and ensuring provision is secured in line with the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice
- Ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice, including adherence to statutory timeframes for assessments and reviews
- Writing and amending EHC plans
- Acting as a consistent point of contact for children, young people, and families, providing information on education options and signposting further support
- Supporting the Phase Transfer process for Year 6 into Year 7 students with EHCPs
- Empowering families to make informed decisions about school placements
- Working in partnership with schools and partner agencies to ensure appropriate provision
- Liaising with Education, Health, Social Care, and Voluntary Sector agencies
- Coordinating services and practitioners, including leading Team around the Child/Family meetings
- Opportunities to be involved in the Department for Education’s change programme to test and refine national SEND and Alternative Provision reforms.

Prior experience is not mandatory but exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential. Candidates should have experience within an education or care environment, be proactive, resilient, and motivated to make a difference to families.
