About the Role
Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to unlock potential in every person or project and redefine the boundaries of ambition. This role supports the Ministry of Justice’s initiative to deliver four new prisons as part of a broader programme creating 13,000 modern prison places across England. Delivered through an Alliance model involving Mace, designers, and major UK contractors, the project promotes collaborative working to drive efficiency, cost savings, and enhanced value for the MoJ. As a Senior Commercial Manager, you will bring strong construction and NEC4 expertise, providing integrated commercial leadership, contract administration, and strategic advice. You will support project teams to ensure compliant, collaborative, and successful programme delivery.
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong working relationships with contractors and client teams, monitoring contractor performance and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, supporting interim payment certification processes in collaboration with client cost consultants, administering contract changes and managing CEMAR workflows to meet contractual deadlines, contributing to benchmarking and monthly performance reporting, participating in commercial meetings, reviewing early warnings and compensation events, preparing recommendations for compensation events and client changing board submissions, conducting site visits to assess completed works and attend contractor progress meetings, engaging in client meetings to review proposed changes and entitlements, and providing commercial support and cost-effective solutions to internal teams and clients.

Experience
Proven success in commercial management within the construction sector. Strong contractual knowledge, particularly NEC4. Experience in contract administration, commercial leadership, and strategic advice. Demonstrated ability to monitor contractor performance and manage complex commercial processes.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to create, manage and maintain relationships at all levels, including director level. Confident communicator and collaborative team player. Accountable, results-driven, and committed to service excellence. Ability to provide commercial support and cost-effective solutions to internal teams and clients.
Qualifications
Relevant commercial management qualifications or equivalent experience preferred. Strong understanding of NEC contracts and construction commercial practices.
