You will also be an excellent people manager, able to support people in their roles and deliver training where needed. Main duties of the job As senior health content officer, you will: oversee and improve our processes to ensure the quality of health content across the Trust, ensuring it meets the needs of our diverse communities produce information across digital and print formats, with a good understanding of how to write and format content for different channels with a focus on accessibility and user experience work collaboratively with different clinical teams to develop and review information in line with our policy and approval process so that it is trustworthy, accurate and up to date understand and follow industry guidance and best practices so our health content is compassionate, easy to understand, accessible, and inclusive work with the wider communications team to raise awareness of the value of good health content, our processes and the range of information we have available Working for our organisation Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust comprises 5 of the UK’s best known hospitals – Guy’s, St Thomas’, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield – as well as community services in Lambeth and Southwark, all with a long history of high quality care, clinical excellence, research and innovation. Detailed job description and main responsibilities Main duties and responsibilities Write, edit and oversee the production of high-quality health content both in print and online. Use advanced keyboard and design skills to produce information in a well formatted layout and style, both for digital and print, which can include images, graphics and text boxes. Work with authors (Trust colleagues in a variety of roles) to ensure their information is accurate, evidence-based, relevant, timely and accessible, ensuring all information meets Trust guidelines, national requirements and legal standards. Lead, within the health content team, on the management of digital health content ensuring that it is accurate, up to date and fit for purpose. Analyse and report on the effectiveness of health content using Google Analytics and other tools eg surveys, patient focus groups, etc. Use this information to advise colleagues on health content activity in their directorate, and to develop ideas for improvement. Support the health content manager in planning and implementing strategies to support a range of internal and external projects and campaigns aimed at patients and identifying and using appropriate information to adjust these as required. Deputise for the health content manager, providing professional advice and guidance to senior staff which could include issues which are of a sensitive nature. Manage a busy workload and ensure appropriate prioritisation of projects and activities to meet a range of deadlines on behalf of the health content team and other departments. Maintain the health content database to monitor the review/update process and distribution of leaflets. Work to improve the quality and consistency of health content across the Trust. Promote the use of health content internally and work with staff to ensure it is distributed to patients in an appropriate and timely way. Advise Trust colleagues on the health content approval process, the Trust’s brand and style guides, and national requirements. Advise Trust colleagues on the accessibility and usability of health content in its various formats. Champion plain English and ensure that all our health content is easy to understand. Attend and provide support to the Health Content Group, the membership of which includes clinical and non-clinical staff. This group meets quarterly to ensure that the views of patients and a wide range of staff and key stakeholders are listened to and that a coordinated and systematic approach is taken to the production of health content throughout the Trust. Provide presentations and briefings when required. Commission designers, printers, film makers, etc to ensure that our most important health content is well-presented, and produced cost-effectively. Ensure health content is available in appropriate formats which meet the needs of our diverse local communities. Liaise with other NHS trusts, national and local charities and patient groups, and other appropriate organisations, sharing health content and best practice. Contribute to the ongoing development of the health content system by suggesting and implementing process improvements. Provide advice on the format of information, the best communication channels to use and how to ensure that information is patient-friendly. Provide presentations at training sessions/workshops to enable staff to reflect best practice when developing content for health content for their area both in print and online Provide excellent advice to staff at all levels on appropriate health content approaches. Act as a central point of contact for the health content team, handling day-to-day enquiries and requests from Trust colleagues about health content. Represent the health content team at internal and external meetings and events as required. This can require representing the Communications team to advise on, and agree, campaigns for news stories, marketing, social media etc. Support local audits in directorates to provide assurance that good practice is being followed (including advising staff on minimum requirements for information displayed to patients and visitors). Help with the production of other content as directed by the health content manager and the head of digital communications and health content. Work closely with the digital communications team to ensure consistency between printed and digital information. The post holder will be the content editor for health content on the Trust intranet and public website and be responsible for managing those pages. Liaise with members of our Volunteer Readers’ Group, to review health content. Staff management and leadership When new starters join the health content team, ensure that they are inducted into the team by demonstrating appropriate duties. Oversee and coordinate the work of one band 5 health content officer including performance against team and personal objectives, and personal development. Education and professional development Maintain and enhance your own personal and professional skills and competencies and with the health content manager, contribute to your own performance appraisals and personal development plan and those of more junior staff in the team. Keep up to date with professional, technological and best practice, methods and services that could enhance the role or team. Support a programme of knowledge and skills-sharing within the health content team and across the wider communications department. The senior health content officer will also promote the department and its information, and carry out other projects and duties as directed by the head of digital communications and health content. Other duties As a member of the communications team, the senior health content officer will be required to contribute to the day-to-day work of the communications department. Duties are likely to include responding to telephone enquiries from Trust staff and external organisations, contributing articles for the quarterly Trust magazine, The GiST, and covering other members of the team as directed by the head of digital communications and health content.
