About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Trading Standards professional to join our Public Protection team. Your duties will include investigating complaints and service demands, interpreting and enforcing a wide range of legislation relating to fraud, age-restricted products, safety, intellectual property, doorstep crime, unfair trading practices, and licensing provisions. You will develop and implement projects and initiatives based on intelligence and identified trends, specialise in one or more work areas, and provide training to businesses and partners. The role involves undertaking complex investigations into breaches of consumer protection legislation, demonstrating detailed knowledge of trading standards legislation, criminal court procedures, and disclosure rules. You will also represent the team at multi-agency events, operations, and meetings.

Our Trading Standards department delivers a broad spectrum of functions through enforcement and advice, participates in national projects and surveys, and acts as the Primary Authority for a large multinational retailer. As part of a small, interactive team, you will gain wide experience in enforcing a range of trading standards legislation. The service plays a critical role in supporting a healthy economy by protecting legitimate businesses.

The Trading Standards service is part of the Public Protection team, which also includes Food Safety, External Health and Safety enforcement, and Licensing.

Bexley is a vibrant and diverse outer London borough with excellent transport connections, award-winning parks, heritage sites, and a range of amenities including libraries, leisure centres, and schools. The borough offers a blend of city life and tranquil surroundings.

Experience
You will need to hold the DTS, DCATS, or an equivalent professional qualification, or have extensive proven experience within Trading Standards.

Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team. You should have a detailed understanding of trading standards legislation and criminal court procedures. A commitment to protecting consumers and supporting legitimate businesses is essential.

Qualifications
Possession of the DTS, DCATS, or equivalent professional qualification is required, or demonstrable extensive experience in Trading Standards.
