About the Role

The Oncology Directorate is a leading centre for cancer treatment and support, delivering comprehensive, patient-centred care across a wide range of tumour types. Services are provided at the purpose-built Guy’s Cancer Centre and Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup, offering outpatient, acute and inpatient oncology services with a strong focus on multidisciplinary collaboration and clinical research.
The Directorate is seeking an experienced and motivated Service Manager to join the senior management team. This role will lead the Outpatient and Inpatient services as well as the Resident Doctor Coordination Team. The successful candidate will play a central role in delivering service transformation aligned with the updated Oncology Strategy, ensuring high quality patient care and meeting key clinical performance targets.
The Service Manager will be accountable to the Deputy General Manager and Clinical Leads, working closely with clinical and nursing leads. Responsibilities include day-to-day service delivery, managing resources, driving improvements, and supporting the senior management team. Experience
- Proven experience managing successful projects and operational performance improvements, including developing and monitoring output and outcome measures.
- Operational experience managing specific services, including design, development, implementation, and change management in a multi-professional environment.
- Experience managing complex budgets from multiple income sources.
- Demonstrable skills in individual, team, financial, process, and change management.
- Line management experience.

- Excellent interpersonal, communication (written, oral, presentation, facilitation), networking, and negotiation skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and delegate effectively.

- Understanding of operations and project management methodologies and successful change management.
- Desirable: Knowledge of the changing NHS environment, experience managing consultants and junior doctors, and understanding of Cancer Waiting Times guidance.
Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience.
- Evidence of recent Continuing Professional Development.
- Desirable: Understanding of lean methodology.
