About the Role
As a Critical Environment Technician (CET) within Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, you will maintain the critical infrastructure that keeps our datacenters operational. Your responsibilities will include coordinating with suppliers and vendors, recognizing safe versus unsafe work environments, and performing hands-on maintenance and repairs on critical environment equipment such as electrical, mechanical, controls, and generators. You will respond to onsite incidents, lead incident response teams, and collaborate with other critical facilities professionals to ensure continuous operations.

Microsoft’s CO+I team powers core infrastructure for services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Microsoft Azure. With over 200 datacenters worldwide, the team supports services for over 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses globally. The role emphasizes environmental sustainability and operational optimization.

As a CET, you will inspect and supervise critical environment equipment and facilities, utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track assets and work orders, and develop or follow emergency operating procedures (EOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs). You will perform planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance independently within your trained discipline, troubleshoot equipment and systems, and provide consultation to junior colleagues.

Experience
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent AND mission critical services work or applied learning experience in high availability environments such as datacenters, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or related fields OR equivalent experience.

Qualifications
Required: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent with relevant mission critical experience.
Preferred: Associate's Degree, technical trade certification, or higher education with extensive mission critical services experience.

Background Check: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire and every two years thereafter.
