£47,750 - £57,750 per year depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.
About the Role
Join Project Playback, a strategic initiative transforming how BBC Nations television channels are delivered across the UK. As a Software Engineer, you will design, build, test, and support the BBC's next-generation cloud-native television playout platform, replacing traditional on-premises broadcast infrastructure. Working within a collaborative, cross-functional team, you will combine software engineering, cloud infrastructure, and automation expertise to build a resilient, scalable, and highly available platform on AWS. This role offers the opportunity to work with modern AWS-based architecture, automation tooling, and media technology specialists at the heart of the BBC's broadcast operation. After the initial platform launch, you will support ongoing maintenance, development, and scaling of the platform to support additional channels.

Experience
- Developing and supporting cloud-native applications and services on AWS
- Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, including AWS CodeBuild and related tooling
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript
- Using AWS CDK to define and deploy infrastructure as code
- Troubleshooting, monitoring, and supporting production systems
Desirable Experience
- Working with media, broadcast, streaming, or video delivery workflows including AS-11, SRT, MPEG-TS, MOS, or SCTE
- Deploying third-party software into the cloud in a repeatable and automated way
- Containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Monitoring, observability, and alerting tools such as CloudWatch, Grafana, or Prometheus
- Networking concepts including load balancing, routing, firewalls, and DNS
About You
Committed to delivering high-quality software and collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams. Able to write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews. Comfortable debugging and resolving production issues. Enthusiastic about working with modern cloud technologies and media broadcast systems.
