About the Role
As the Strategic Transport Projects Manager within the Safe & Healthy Streets Team at Camden Council, you will lead the delivery of key strategic priorities in the transport capital programme, including some of the most ambitious and complex neighbourhood-based Healthy Streets schemes. A major focus will be the transformation of Camden High Street, where Phase 1 has been implemented as a trial with partial pedestrianisation. You will manage this project through its trial period, aiming to make the scheme permanent, and develop Phase 2 proposals involving further extension, multiple road changes, new public realm, urban greening, and wider improvements.
In addition, you will oversee several other significant transformational schemes aligned with Camden’s Transport Strategy, including Safe & Healthy Streets projects designed to reduce through-traffic and enhance cycling, walking, and wheeling infrastructure across the borough. These initiatives require a highly experienced project and programme manager with expertise in urban transport schemes and stakeholder management.
You will deputise for the Safe & Healthy Streets Team Manager as needed and lead a small sub-team responsible for developing and implementing Healthy Streets projects across Camden. This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
Experience
Proven experience managing multiple, complex, and overlapping transport projects on time and within budget. Demonstrated success in partnership working and stakeholder management with external organisations such as Transport for London, the Greater London Authority, other boroughs, and community groups. Experience preparing high-quality reports and papers for Council Committees and public meetings. Leadership experience managing small teams and deputising for senior managers.
About you
A strong, skilled, and proactive project manager with excellent negotiation and communication skills. Able to build effective working relationships with elected Members and external partners. Innovative and enthusiastic with a problem-solving mindset and the ability to work at pace. Committed to Camden’s values of inclusion and social change.
Qualifications
While specific qualifications are not detailed, the role requires significant professional experience in strategic transport project management, preferably within urban environments and local government settings.
