About the Role
Are you looking for a meaningful role where you can make a real difference? Surrey County Council is recruiting a Support Time Recovery Worker to join our specialist Prisons team. In this role, you will help prisoners access vital services such as healthcare, education, and work opportunities. Working closely with Social Workers and Occupational Therapists, you will motivate individuals to build independence in daily living, navigate prison systems, and prepare for life after release.

This challenging but rewarding role involves supporting service users with a range of needs, including physical disabilities, mental health conditions, and learning disabilities/ASD. You will provide direct face-to-face support in line with individual support plans, which may include assistance with personal care, managing correspondence, maintaining living spaces, and helping integration into the prison environment.

You will be primarily linked to HMP Highdown but will also work across other Surrey prisons as needed. The role includes a reablement element focused on promoting independence and supporting individuals with physical and other challenges. While much of the work is face-to-face, there are opportunities to work from home for tasks such as recording case notes, attending virtual meetings, and completing training.

You will participate in reviews and assessments alongside your team and maintain regular contact with other professionals within the prison, attending scheduled meetings as required.

Surrey County Council offers a comprehensive benefits package including holiday entitlement rising with service, a generous local government pension, carer’s leave, paid volunteering days, and access to wellbeing and lifestyle discounts. Join us and make a lasting impact on the lives of our residents.

Requirements

Experience
Experience working with older persons, mental health, learning disabilities, or physical disabilities is essential. Previous work in social care or related fields is highly valued.

About you
You are self-motivated and able to work autonomously in a challenging and demanding environment. Flexibility and adaptability are key to promoting the social care agenda within prisons. You must hold a full current driving licence and have use of a vehicle to effectively undertake this role. Applications from those without this requirement will not be considered.

You will demonstrate empathy, resilience, and a passion for supporting others to make positive changes. You must be able to balance the individual’s wishes, strengths, goals, and preferences with risk management, prison regimes, and professional boundaries.

Qualifications
As part of the role, you will be required to complete Ministry of Justice (MOJ) checks and enhanced DBS checks including Children’s and Adults’ Barred List checks. You will be issued keys to access the prison and move independently within the wings.
