St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Our merger provides a once in a generation opportunity to build a lasting, world-renowned heart and lung centre, providing the highest quality care for patients and conducting world-leading research. In partnership with King’s College London we have dedicated clinical research facilities including an MHRA accredited Phase I clinical trials unit. Do you have extensive experience in communicating and engaging with internal and external stakeholders in large and complex organisations? Then the Sustainability Communications and Engagement Lead across Guy's and St Thomas' as well as King's College Hospital, two of country's largest and busiest NHS Foundation trusts, could be an exciting opportunity and we would love to hear from you. Main duties of the job The main duties of the Communications and Engagement Lead are as follows: • To further develop and deliver a Communications and Engagement Strategy and action plans for the Trusts’ Sustainability Strategy/Green Plans; • To communicate progress made with implementing Sustainability Strategy/Green Plan; • To further develop and grow staff engagement, e.g. the Green Champions network, whereby members play active roles with implementing the Trusts’ Sustainability Strategies/Green Plans; • To increase pro-environmental behaviour amongst staff by providing training, supporting the set-up of environmental/sustainability groups, promoting initiatives, providing an online platform for ideas sharing/rewards, and facilitating the adoption of sustainable practices; • To develop department-specific action plans that offer localised support for staff to identify and implement practical solutions for implementing the Sustainability Strategy/Green Plan across the whole range of the Trusts’ clinical and non-clinical activity. Working for our organisation The Communications and Engagement Lead role sits within the Essentia Directorate working across Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. There is also potential for the role to be working across Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust in the future. Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are two of the biggest and busiest trusts in the country with approximately 37,000 staff members and four million annual patient contacts between them. Guy’s and St Thomas’ sites are St Thomas’ Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Guy’s Hospital, Harefield Hospital and community services in Lambeth and Southwark. King’s provides services from King’s College Hospital Denmark Hill, Princess Royal University Hospital, Orpington Hospital, Queen Mary’s Hospital Sidcup and Beckenham Beacon. Essentia is part of Guy’s and St Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust. Responsible for non-clinical healthcare services, Essentia designs, builds and maintains healthcare infrastructure vital to the smooth running of healthcare services. Essentia employs around 2,000 people. Sustainability The partner Trusts have publicly launched Sustainability strategies/Green Plans, and the South East London ICS has also launched its Green Plan. The Trusts’ ambitious missions in sustainability focus on three strategic themes: Carbon Zero, Connecting With Nature, and Cycle of Resources. Person specification Qualification / education Essential criteria BSc/1st degree in Communications or equivalent qualification/training and experience Masters level qualification in Communications or specialist post graduate qualification plus significant relevant post graduate experience in this area Desirable criteria Previous experience of working in the NHS and/or health/social sector Previous experience Essential criteria Significant experience of creating, managing, reporting and prioritising multiple communications and engagements campaigns Experience of delivering behaviour change programmes/initiatives Desirable criteria Highly developed knowledge and understanding of the changing NHS environmental strategies and policy agendas Skills / Knowledge / Ability Essential criteria Highly developed knowledge across the range of environmental sustainability practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge from study and/or relevant practical experience Experience of stakeholder management and influencing skills across all levels of the organisation.
