St Thomas’ has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Evelina London cares for local children in Lambeth and Southwark and provides specialist services across south east England including cardiac, renal and critical care services. We lead a number of specialist service networks aiming to ensure children are treated locally where possible, but have access to specialist expertise when they need it. Our community services include health visiting, school nursing and support for families of children with long-term conditions. Our adult community services teams deliver care at the heart of the local communities we serve, working in partnership with GPs, local authorities and other healthcare and voluntary sector organisations. Working with our partners in Lambeth and Southwark, we are focusing on new ways of working to improve care for local patients. In February 2021 the Royal Brompton and Harefield joined Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, bringing together world-leading expertise in the care and research of heart and lung disease. Job overview If you are keen to influence and drive patient experience, safety, performance and staff wellbeing then we would like to hear from you. You will need to have an in depth understanding of national access targets, specifically RTT and diagnostic waits. The post holder will also need to have completed all Apollo training and have access to EPIC systems. You will provide leadership and expert advice to your teams to help deliver high standards of care and quality. This is a challenging role but an exciting opportunity for the right candidate looking to further their skills and progress their career into a senior management role. Main duties of the job · Manage and support the Validation team in the use of operational rules and procedures associated with patient pathway management (e.g RTT) · To ensure all data records and reporting relating to waiting times are accurate, up to date and reflect both national and local policies. · The post holder will be required to confidently validate data for patient pathways (e.g RTT) · The post holder will oversee delivery against key validation performance and quality standards across the team. · The post holder will provide the line management of the team, offering a high level of day to day support for complex issues arising to ensure prompt resolution to support patients not waiting longer than necessary for treatment. The Trust vision: • Every patient is prospectively tracked • All staff understand their responsibilities and have received the necessary training and development to be confident in their role • Speciality Teams and the Trust Board receive assurance that data recorded is accurate, equates to the patients’ experience and is in line with national and local standards Detailed job description and main responsibilities · Plan and oversee the day to day organisation of the team of patient pathway validators to ensure that all Trust patient pathway records (e.g RTT) have the correct clock starts and clock stops, and are kept up to date. · Develop a culture within Booking teams (centralised and local) and the Validation Team that looks at patient pathways holistically across outpatients, diagnostics and inpatients – in order to make effective decisions about patient pathway management (e.g RTT) -clock starts and stops. · Pro-actively monitor and anticipate areas of concern relating to patient pathway management (e.g RTT) that may affect performance – and ensure these are flagged to the Senior Validation Managers in a timely way. · Develop and write policies and standardised procedures within own work area. · Ensure effective processes and procedures are in place to monitor and track validation performance against agreed targets within the service. · Ensure that effective systems are in place to maintain service delivery in the event of staff absences · Arrange and plan certain key meetings (e.g PTL meetings), taking accurate minutes when required. · Support the management team by preparing presentations. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Educated to degree level or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience. Evidence of recent Continuing Professional Development Previous experience Essential criteria Significant experience and In-depth knowledge of patient pathway management (incl. national RTT waiting times) Experience of presenting and using performance information using information systems (e.g Epic) to improve key access targets Operational experience in supporting specific services including design, development, implementation and management of change in a multi-professional environment. Experience of administering budgets and demonstrable evidence of individual, team, financial, process and change management. Proven Experience of supervising and developing staff Desirable criteria Experience of delivering services on a multi-site basis Skills/ Knowledge/ Ability Essential criteria Use analytical and judgement skills including understanding and application of complex statistical and numerical data. Effective people and project management skills with experience managing and leading a team Effective communication skills both written and verbal including formal presentation skills, influencing and negotiating. Work flexibly and prioritise in response to changing demands and requirements. Organisational skills and the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and delegate effectively.
