401 St John St, London. Vacancies cover multiple boroughs including North East 1 (Enfield, Haringey, Waltham Forest, Hackney, City), North East 2 (Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets), West 1 (Ealing, Kingston and Richmond, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow), West 2 (Barnet, Brent, Camden and Islington, Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington, Chelsea, Westminster), South 1 (Croydon, Bromley, Bexley, Greenwich, Lewisham), and South 2 (Lambeth, Southwark, Wandsworth, Merton, Sutton).
Hours
The role requires working at least one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) as teams operate 7 days a week. Weekend work is part of the normal working pattern and attracts a 50% higher pay rate. Evening cover may also be required. The role involves supervising groups for up to 7 hours per day on Community Payback unpaid work placements.
Salary
Starting salary of £26,475 with opportunity for annual pay progression through a Competency Based Framework (CBF). The Civil Service also reviews pay bands annually in line with guidance.
About the Role
A Community Payback Supervisor leads and motivates small teams of people on probation completing unpaid work to pay back for harm caused. Tasks include clearing overgrowth, restoring community facilities, planting trees, laying flowerbeds, litter picking, and graffiti removal. The role involves direct supervision, demonstrating good practice, and ensuring tasks are completed effectively and safely. Driving service vehicles to transport people or equipment may be required. This is a varied, active role where no two days are the same, offering the chance to make a real difference in communities while being fully supported. The role accommodates people with caring responsibilities or other commitments and prioritizes wellbeing despite a demanding pace of work.
Experience
Experience working with diverse individuals and supervising groups is beneficial. Empathy, strong communication skills, and leadership ability are essential to support and motivate people on probation effectively.

You are empathetic, a confident communicator, and comfortable taking the lead. You have a genuine desire to help people and improve communities. Flexibility to work weekends and some evenings is required. You must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain wellbeing standards.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a full UK Manual Driving Licence; automatic licences are not accepted. You must have the legal right to work in the UK. Successful candidates will undergo criminal record and baseline personnel security checks.
