About the Role
Hackney Council is seeking an exceptional Community Safety and Principal Enforcement Officer (PEO) for a 12-month fixed term contract or secondment opportunity within the Community Safety, Enforcement and Business Regulation Service. You will be part of a broader, inclusive service delivering accountable and timely enforcement actions in line with legislation and Council policies.
The role involves managing a wide range of enforcement duties including Noise, Community Safety, Anti-Social Behaviour, Street Scene, and environmental enforcement such as Fly tipping, Graffiti, Fly posting, Littering, Highway obstructions, and other public realm enforcement as required. You will be assigned specific wards to address localised problems, challenge and change behaviours, contributing to the Mayor’s priorities and the Council’s corporate objectives.
While expertise in all enforcement areas is not essential, experience in effective case management in some of these fields and the ability to transfer skills is important. You must demonstrate the ability to deal sensitively and skillfully with complainants and victims of Anti-Social Behaviour, progressing cases while managing expectations.
Accurate record keeping to ensure compliance with reporting obligations is required. The role demands a proactive approach, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
You will report to an Enforcement Manager and work alongside a team of Principal Enforcement Officers, Enforcement Officers (in uniform), Technical Support, and the wider Community Safety and Business Regulation Service to provide excellent service to residents and the public.
An enhanced DBS check is required for this role.

Experience
- Proven ability to manage enforcement cases effectively under pressure.
- Experience in some areas of enforcement such as Noise, Community Safety, Anti-Social Behaviour, environmental enforcement or public realm enforcement is desirable.
- Ability to deal sensitively with complainants and victims of Anti-Social Behaviour.
- Experience maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with reporting obligations.
