About the Role
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses, used by millions of companies worldwide to accept payments, grow revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, offering you an unprecedented opportunity to impact the global economy while doing the most important work of your career. As Employment Counsel, you will join Stripe’s legal team supporting the People team and other business partners across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). You will advise on employment law matters, proactively manage employment-related risks, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance and best practices. Your responsibilities will include providing subject-matter expertise on employment issues such as recruiting, hiring, performance management, compensation and benefits, leaves of absence, people data privacy, internal investigations, working time, and HR best practices. You will also draft and negotiate employment-related agreements, handle pre-litigation and litigation matters, and monitor developments in employment, AI, and data protection law to advise on their impact to Stripe.
Experience
Minimum 4+ years of specialist, post-qualification employment law experience at a law firm or in-house legal department. Experience advising technology clients or in-house legal experience is preferred. Experience advising on employee representative bodies, works councils, and European works councils, as well as jurisdictions outside Ireland and the United Kingdom, is a bonus.
About you
You are qualified to practice law in Ireland or England and Wales. You have the ability to analyse employment law matters of varying complexity, exercise sound judgment, and make well-reasoned decisions amid ambiguity and incomplete information. You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders while maintaining discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism. Strong organisational and project-management skills are essential, including the ability to manage multiple long- and short-term workstreams, collaborate across teams, and support international employment law matters outside EMEA when needed.
Qualifications
Qualification to practice law in Ireland or England and Wales is required. Preferred qualifications include in-house experience or experience advising technology clients as external counsel.
