About the Role
Redbridge is one of the most exciting places to be in London right now. Ambitious regeneration plans and new investment are delivering generational change for the borough, enhancing quality of life and creating new opportunities for our communities. We are modernising our organisation to be more agile, innovative and impactful, harnessing the full potential of our people and technology to shape a modern and innovative local authority. We need leaders who are ready to take things to the next level.
This is a key leadership role within the Council, responsible for the effective and efficient collection of rent across the Housing Revenue Account and Temporary Accommodation. You will bring a sharp focus on improving rent collection, debt recovery and cashflow across the Council, with an excellent appreciation of the practical steps on the ground that can make an impact.
You will have overall responsibility for a large team of 22 people, so excellent people management skills are essential. You will work with the team to embed a customer-centric approach while continually seeking opportunities to improve performance, utilising technology to enhance capacity and provide an easily accessible and consistent experience for tenants. Supporting the team in making connections across the council will be key to offering a more rounded and joined-up approach to supporting customers who need additional help. You will also have considerable contact with elected members, requiring you to deliver accurate and timely performance reporting and demonstrate confidence in your detailed knowledge.
Redbridge is a hugely diverse borough, so it is essential to appreciate the particular challenges of pursuing arrears and enforcement in such a setting. Early intervention strategies will be key to reducing overall arrears, while you will also accelerate the court process for more serious cases. Ensuring clear and consistent messaging to residents, backed by efficient systems and processes, will be critical to maximising income.
Experience
Significant experience within a rent collection or debt recovery setting, including managing teams and resources within a target-driven environment.
About you

Able to work collaboratively across teams and departments to provide joined-up support to customers. Understanding of the challenges in a diverse community and experience in implementing early intervention and enforcement strategies.
Qualifications
Relevant professional qualifications or demonstrable experience in rent collection, debt recovery, or housing management are desirable but not explicitly stated.
