About the Role
Brent is a vibrant London borough known for its diversity and iconic landmarks such as Wembley Stadium. Spanning both inner and outer London, Brent offers a unique and valued community shaped by its rich ethnic and cultural heritage. The council is undergoing a significant transformation to better meet the needs of its residents, making this an exciting time to join us.

This role is within Homelessness Services, part of the Housing Needs & Support department, joining the newly established Private Rented Sector Sustainment and Compliance Team. The team supports the implementation of the Renters’ Rights Act 2025, enhancing homelessness prevention efforts within the private rented sector.

As a Sustainment & Compliance Officer, you will manage a caseload of residents at risk of homelessness, working proactively to sustain tenancies, prevent eviction, and support landlord compliance. Your responsibilities will include early intervention in tenancy breakdowns, providing practical advice and support to tenants and landlords, and identifying and referring cases of potential housing legislation breaches to the appropriate teams.

You will collaborate closely with internal teams such as Private Housing Services and legal representatives, as well as external partners, to deliver effective prevention outcomes, reduce reliance on temporary accommodation, and help residents maintain stable housing.

Requirements

Experience
Proven experience working within housing or homelessness services, managing caseloads and supporting residents at risk of homelessness to achieve positive outcomes. Strong knowledge of the private rented sector and homelessness prevention is essential.

Experience providing clear and accurate housing advice, understanding legal processes, and using professional judgement to identify appropriate interventions.

About you
A motivated and proactive individual with strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Confident in managing complex and sensitive situations, working constructively with tenants and landlords to sustain tenancies and prevent eviction.

Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and build effective relationships with internal services and external partners.

Resilient, adaptable, and committed to delivering high-quality, resident-focused services in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

Qualifications
Not explicitly stated, but a strong understanding of the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 and relevant housing legislation is required.
