We are seeking an experienced and motivated Specialist Clinical Coder to join our dynamic Clinical Coding Department. This role offers the opportunity to be part of a transformative journey to shape the future of digital health within a world-class digital ecosystem.

As a Specialist Clinical Coder, you will accurately abstract, analyse, and assign complex diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications. You will work closely with clinical teams to validate and enhance the quality of coded data, take the lead on specific specialties and complex coding scenarios, mentor junior coders, and contribute to clinical engagement, KPI monitoring, audit preparation, and data quality improvement.

Our Clinical Coding Department plays a vital role in translating patient information into codes used for billing, research, and planning, directly impacting the Trust’s ability to recover income and plan services effectively.

This role follows a hybrid working model with onsite presence expected as needed to support collaboration and knowledge sharing as the department continues its transformation.

Requirements

Experience
Substantial clinical coding expertise across all specialties and levels of complexity
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology

Analytical and detail-oriented with the ability to abstract complex records accurately
Strong problem-solving skills to resolve complex coding issues and articulate resolutions clearly
Ability to identify data quality issues and coding workflow impediments and use sound intuition to resolve them
Committed to mentoring and supporting junior colleagues
Proactive and collaborative team player with a willingness to innovate and disrupt the status quo

Qualifications
Essential: Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC)
Desirable: Demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint)
Desirable: Working knowledge of SQL to interrogate data
